5.7L 350 SBC GM Crate Engine

12681429 Chevrolet Engine

Big on performance & durability, small on price!

All new - not remanufactured! Chevrolet offers the classic 350 in our most economical Small-Block Chevy (SBC) engine assembly. Designed to replace numerous GM production vehicle engines used from 1973-1985. This long block was once known as the GM Goodwrench 350 and includes a durable short-block and traditional 76 cc iron cylinder heads with early-style perimeter-bolt valve covers. Internals consist of a four-bolt main block, nodular iron crankshaft and smooth hydraulic-flat tappet camshaft.

For your convenience we also offer this engine with three levels of completion to save you time and money!

Chevrolet 5.7L 350 SBC GM Crate Engine

P/N 12681429

This is the correct replacement engine for many older cars, light-duty trucks, (please see the application listings below) as well as an excellent entry-level set-up for street rods, vintage or muscle cars. This engine can grow with you as your budget grows with any number of the performance parts available. GM rates it at 195 horsepower for factory replacement applications, but in a hot rod or other custom application you can expect much more from this affordable 350 with the addition of a few key components.

To quote Super Chevy Magazine's website (Oct. 28, 2015),

"The Chevrolet Performance [sic] 195-horse crate engine is, undeniably, the workhorse of the crate engine world. And, while its diminutive output rating has won it little acclaim, what we found on the dyno was more than a little surprising. We borrowed an Edelbrock Air Gap intake and Holley 650 carb from Westech [as well as 1.75" dyno headers] and used an HEI distributor from our old mill to run the engine in a naturally aspirated, out-of-the-crate condition. The little mouse surprised us with peak power and torque numbers of 287 and 361.7 respectively, nearly 100 horsepower more than it is rated at. So what’s the deal? No, there is no dyno sorcery at work here. The power rating the engine carries is extremely generic, and assumes the worst-case scenario of induction and exhaust. In this situation, since we weren’t rocking a 2-barrel [or] TBI intake manifold and extremely restrictive cast exhaust manifolds, the engine was free to breathe and ready to prove its worth."
